The Mexican Peso has seen a modest rebound as the Bank of Mexico maintains a firm stance on interest rates

3 min

The Mexican Peso has made a slight recovery in its value against the US Dollar, yet challenges remain despite Bank of Mexico (Banxico) Deputy Governor Jonathan Heath’s indication that interest rates are expected to stay elevated.

The currency’s rebound, aided by a renewed appetite for risk, provided some respite after it fell to its weakest point since February 2024. Currently, the USD/MXN is trading at 16.99, reflecting a decrease of 0.47%.

In a Banorte Podcast interview, Heath mentioned that the central bank is poised to implement “fine adjustments” to the benchmark interest rate, aiming to maintain a tight monetary policy until there is a noticeable improvement in inflation.
